David Bendel, Co-President
David joined the MDA Victoria Committee in 1980 and has been President/Co-President
since 1982.
In the early days, MDA Victoria held few fundraising functions, no database existed
and the Committee's friends and acquaintances were the principal sources of
support for the MDA cause.
David realised things had to change.
He introduced an annual door knock which later developed into our Annual Telethon,
conscripting the aid of his students from Mt.Scopus College. He established and
enlarged a database from which MDA Victoria was able to increase our donor base.
David's continuous push for change has meant that, today, MDA Victoria's office utilises
up-to-date technology so keeping our fundraising costs at an extremely low level.
Sam Recht, Co-President
Sam joined the MDA Victoria Committee in 1988 and has been
President/Co-President since approximately 1990.
As the youngest member on the Committee, Sam realised that an injection of youth
was necessary for the future survival of the Victorian Chapter of MDA.
Accordingly, together with David Bendel, steps were taken to create a young
division of MDA comprising of, largely, university students.
It is pleasing to now note that, as a result of this deliberate youth policy,
MDA Victoria now boasts an active division of young MDA members - "MDA Noar".
With Sam's expertise and assistance, MDA Victoria has become an incorporated
association and is currently pursuing tax exemptions for the benefit of its
members and donors.
